ALI ALIU 1934

 

He was born in Macedonian Prespa, at the village of Kranje , in 1934. After finishing the elementary school in his village and the secondary school in Tetovo, he continued his studies in Skopje. He completed his studies at the Department of Albanology of the University of Belgrade. He was one of the initiators of the student’s association “Perpjekja”, which was the only association of Albanian students in former Yugoslavia. Because of his activities he was imprisoned and was kept under judicial inquiry together with the poet Agim Gjakova who was also studying at the University of Belgrade.


After finishing his studies in Belgrade, Ali Aliu was member of the editing staff of the Albanian daily in Macedonia “Flaka e Vllaznimit” from 1959 to1969). His editorials published in the summer of 1967 with the common title “ A close view of Tetovo”, two years after the demonstrations in Kosovo and in Tetovo, were accused as inspiration for these demonstrations, in a meeting held by the Central Committee of Macedonia. Due to these accuses Ali Aliu moved in Kosovo, where he worked in the daily “Rilindja” for three years..


In 1974, he defended his theses of dissertation at the University of Prishtina on the topic: “The life and the work of Petro Marko”. In the beginning of seventies, he was appointed a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy in Prishtina, at the Department of Albanian Language and Literature. He has worked in this University until 1990, when together with some other professors of this institution was expelled because of his political activities. In 1996 he was appointed as member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts in Kosova.


He is teaching now at the University of South –Eastern Europe in Tetovo.
